PRF Hair Restoration

What is PRF?

PRF stands for Platelet Rich Fibrin. It is the latest procedure for the patients suffering from hair loss. PRF for hair regrowth, also known as Platelet Rich Fibrin Therapy, is an alternative to surgery. Our office is located in Lake Nona, Florida, Dr. Felling, M.D. is now offering “Platelet Rich Fibrin Therapy” (PRF) – a natural hair restoration process utilizing platelets from a patient’s own blood and delivering them directly to the problem area to regenerate and regrow lost hair. Numerous football and baseball players have used Platelet Rich Fibrin Therapy, even golfer Tiger Woods.

Procedure of PRF

PRF is a procedure that can take less than an hour, utilizing the patient’s own blood, it is drawn from the patient’s arm and then placed into an FDA approved centrifuge. The platelets are separated from the red and white blood cells to make the growth factor rich PRF, which is then redrawn using a specialized syringe and injected into the areas of hair loss to stimulate and accelerate the growth of new hair.

With a PRF injection, platelets gather at the site and release a highly concentrated amount of beneficial proteins called growth factors that stimulate the healing environment to regenerate the tissue of the hair follicle.

Does PRF work for hair loss?

PRF works best in patients with hair loss patterns typical of Androgenic Alopecia (AGA). This is the most common cause of chronic hair loss, affecting both men and women. The hair follicles begin to shrink and die due to lack of blood flow. PRF stimulates hair growth by increasing blood supply to the hair follicles.

PRF works best for patients that started experiencing hair loss within the last five years. The earlier PRF is started the better the results will be.

How long do the results last?

PRF is performed in a series of three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. Most patients see hair growth begin after the second treatment. Results generally last at least 4-6 months. We recommend a one time maintenance treatment 6 months after the last treatment.
